In the World Cup, they defeated Australia and drew against Canada and the Republic of Ireland, only losing to England on penalties.
Brazil, however, have a strong Olympic history, having won gold in 1996 and silver in 2004 and 2008.
Nigeria, nine-time African champions, last competed in the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament in China in 2008. Their final results then were 0-1 against Korea DPR, 0-1 against Germany, and 1-3 against Brazil, who went on to win the silver medal.
Nigeria’s best Women’s Olympic Football Tournament performance was in Athens 20 years ago when the Super Falcons finished sixth after reaching the quarterfinals.
